Press Briefing: Seizures of drugs, materials and production sites briefed

A press briefing by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the largest-ever seizures of narcotic drugs and materials used in the manufacture of narcotic drugs in the Mongyai area, as well as the exposure and seizure of equipment used in online scam and gambling activities, was held at the Anisakhan အနီးစခန်း Airport Lounge in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region in the morning on January 14.

At the press briefing, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Leader of the Information Team of the National Defence and Security Council Deputy Minister for Information Major General Zaw Min Tun, together with responsible officials, explained the situation regarding the discovery and seizure of drug-manufacturing sites in the Mongyai area and the confiscation of materials and related items used in the production of narcotic drugs. They also responded to questions raised by domestic and foreign diplomats and media representatives.

Afterward, attendees toured and viewed the seized items, including materials related to drug production, confiscated equipment, and documentary photographs, with responsible officials providing explanations and briefings along the way.

The press briefing was attended by members of the Information Team of the National Defence and Security Council, ambassadors and military attachés from the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Brunei Darussalam, Mr. Saphasit Boonruang, Minister Counselor from Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Mr. Huang Yao, Police Counselor from China’s National Narcotics Control Commission (NNCC), Mr. Rainer Funke from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), representatives from various departments, journalists from domestic news agencies, daily newspapers, domestic television networks, and foreign media organizations based in Myanmar.
