Ayurveda Day celebration: MoH UM gave a remark at the celebration

The 9th Annual Ayurveda Day Celebration, jointly organized by the University of Traditional Medicine (Mandalay) and the Consulate General of India, was held at the University in Mandalay on 29th October.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win, the Indian Ambassador Mr. Shri Abhay Thakur, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung and officials.At the ceremony, the Indian Consul General delivered a welcoming speech, followed by an address from the Union Minister, who noted that Ayurveda has been practiced for approximately 5,000 years as a traditional healing science, aimed at balancing mental and physical well-being. He highlighted that Myanmar and India have a longstanding history of cooperation in the health sector, with significant collaborations in healthcare services, research, and capacity building.

This year’s Ayurveda Day theme, “Ayurvedic Innovation for Global Health,” underscores the importance of Ayurveda in the health field, emphasizing its foundational principles—attention to diet, adequate hydration, and harmony with one’s environment—for holistic health, aiming to raise global awareness of these practices.

The Indian Ambassador further elaborated that since 2016, Ayurveda Day has been celebrated by Indian embassies worldwide. Ayurveda, deeply rooted in Indian tradition, has been practiced for centuries as a core component of India’s traditional medical system.

India has been sharing Ayurvedic knowledge and collaborating on this discipline with nations under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BIMSTEC. In 2016, India and Myanmar, recognizing the shared natural heritage, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration in Ayurveda and traditional medicine.

After that, Pro-Rector (Teaching) U Htay Lwin from University of Traditional Medicines (Mandalay) discussed regarding with Myanmar and Ayurvedic Medicine and so did Director Mr.Ashish Kumar from Swami Vivekonon da Cultural Centrer (Yangon) regarding with Evolution of Ayurveda and Importance of Ayurveda in day-to-day life.
