That heat wave has now engulfed half the country, affecting about 64% of the population. The highest temperatures in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, have hit 35 degrees Celsius recent days.
On July 21, staff members in Nanning Zoo help animals beat heat by feeding them fruits, providing ice cubes and water sprinkles for them.
