Agriculture Sector: Efforts for boosting agriculture production in Magway Region

In Magway Region, over 2.8 billion kyats loan disbursement from the State Economic Promotion Fund have been provided to 847 businesses owners in agriculture, livestock and MSMEs sectors in accordance with SOPs regulations. Over 927 million kyats out of these loans went to the development of agricultural sector.

On 11th July, Chief Minister U Tint Lwin held a meeting with departmental officials and heads of districts, townships and wards administrators and local farmers at the Town Hall ofThayet Township. At the meeting, the Agricultural Development Organizations of Thayet, Kan, Mindon and Minhla Townships reported on agricultural development activities of their respective townships. 

The regional level departmental officials also reported the work performance of their respective departments. The Chief Minister discussed that all the activities are being carried out in line with the 5-point Road Map and 12 objectives.

He urged officials to give attention to the agricultural land activities, followed by implementing the development of education, health and electricity sectors. He stressed that it is important to raise the socio-economic life of local farmers.

Myanmar mainly rely on agricultural sector and Magway Region mainly cultivates oil bearing crops, peanut and sesame. He urged the local farmers to keep contact with the departments of agriculture in respective Townships for the advices on cultivation methods based on the weather conditions.

He also urged the relevant district/township teams for implementing the development of oil crops to carry out the double and triple cropping cultivations to meet the targets.

He added that the Regional Government is making efforts for boosting production of 10 major crops of the region, increasing per acre yields of oil crops, expanding the sunflower cultivation and ensuring self-sufficiency in domestic oil consumptions. The Chief Minister later presented cotton seeds and compound fertilizer to 354 local farmers.

After that, the Chief Minister visited ThaePhyu village in Thayet Township and viewed the thriving plantations of monsoon sesame and chickpeas in the pilot mix-crop farming. He also met with farmers and gave necessary instructions.
