Aftermath of Cyclone Mocha: Clean drinking water being distributed to locals

In aftermath of Cyclone Mocha, clean drinking water is being distributed in some villages and townships of Rakhine State where face drinking water deficit and scarcity.

Access to clean drinking water is very important for public health, and so, relevant departments in Rakhine State are working hard for clean drinking water access and development activities for local residents. After Cyclone Mokha, the Department of Rural Development has been distributing clean drinking water with 1water purification truck not only at the villages but also at the headquarters in Minbya Township starting from 21st May.

With the cooperation of the local residents, the Department of Rural Development and Department of General Administration Department have been carrying out to pump out the salt water from the lakes in the villages and the pumping procedures have been completed in 25 out of the 31 ponds so far.

In order to provide clean drinking water to the people, the saltwater pumping activities will be carried out for remaining lakes as quickly as possible. In order to ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water and to improve accessibility of drinking water, water purifier machines have been distributed to the needy villages in accordance with the guidance of the Disaster Management Committee (Minbya), it’s learnt.

Also, water purification tablets are distributed to the villages and the Department of Rural Development is conducting educative talk on the usage of tablets for locals in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development.
