A World Food Program official is worried that the conflict in Ukraine will further increase food and fuel prices in Afghanistan, where 95 per cent of Afghans already cannot afford enough to eat properly.

Food prices in Afghanistan are already up 40 percent and there are significant dangers of further increases. Already this year the WFP has spent $1 billion feeding millions of Afghans but needs another $1.6 billion and donor countries will "have to dig deeper," as the crisis in Ukraine deepens.

In the markets in Kabul there is food. But Masihullah, who runs a small stall, said no one has money. A sack of flour costs nearly $28, a near impossible price for the few who still have work.

Most Afghans are now below the poverty level which means they earn $1.90 a day or less. But most people don't have jobs, Masihullah said.80 percent of Afghans are in debt and 100 per cent of women-led households do not have enough food.
