South Korea-U.S. ‘Ulchi Freedom Shield’ begins Aug. 17

The South Korea-U.S. military exercise Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS), held in the second half of each year, is slated for August 17 to 27 this year.

Military authorities of both countries said it would be an annual defense-oriented exercise. This year’s exercise would also include partial verification for the transfer of wartime operational control. The two countries would jointly evaluate some of the South Korean military’s capabilities and systems needed for the acquisition of wartime operational control.
