Thai Interior Ministry suspends gun-buying permits as part of gun controls

Thailand’s Interior Ministry temporarily suspended the issuance of new gun-buying permits and welfare gun schemes nationwide on Thursday. Ordered by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, these emergency measures follow a deadly mass shooting at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School on August 7, 2026.

The Ministry halts all new firearm purchase licenses, pending approvals, and public official welfare gun programs, emphasizing that registered weapons must stay at home and cannot be openly carried in public spaces.
