






Myanmar students participated in the 9th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO) organized by Singapore through online from 20th to 23rd June.
The theme of the event is "Building an Environmentally Sustainable Future" and this year's event brought together 26 teams from the ASEAN Plus Three countries and an observer team from Sweden.
Dr Soe Mya Mya Aye, Head, Department of Computer Studies (Yangon University) said "ASEAN+3 countries organize the event. Being a member, Myanmar participated in the event. The students gained international experience. As the event is based on science, the university provides science knowledge to the students. "
Khin Than Oo, Director (Academic), Ygn Region Education Officer’s Office said "For this contest, we chose each team from respective districts. Two teams from Yangon Division had the opportunity to represent Myanmar in the competition. The student contestants are not older than 15 years and 11 months. Each team has three students and a teacher. We also proud of the students and the country as they have the opportunity on representing Myanmar."
The two teams representing for Myanmar are from No.1 High School (Dagon) and No.1 High School (Thingangyun). Altogether 6 students and two teachers participated in the event. The 1st prize was presented for a group, the 2nd prize for two groups and the 3rd prize for three groups.
Pyae Sone Chan Tha, Silver Award Winner, No.1 High School, Dagon said "I won the silver award in the mixed country team (Team-B). Our team is comprised of six participants; each from Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and other country. As the event is aimed for the natural environment conservation, our presentation is Ocean Acidification that is about the absorption of carbon dioxide in the ocean. We are very excited as it is international competition and have a lot of fun. "
Su Lin Lae, Bronze Award Winner, No.1 High School, Dagon said "We get a lot of new experiences from the competition such as environment conservation and project working together with students from abroad. I grab bronze award. "
Ei Ei Tun, Silver Award Winner, No.1 High School, Thingangyun said "I won silver award in the mixed country team. Our group has seven members. Our topic is how to reduce carbon footprint. I am proud of my country and so happy for making many friends from abroad. "
In the four-day event, students participated in science challenges and workshops, and interact virtually with sustainability researchers.
