The four sacred Buddha images of Inle Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda returned to their original shrine on Thursday, following their annual journey to 21 locations around Inle Lake during the pagoda festival.
The Buddha images arrived aboard a traditional Karaweik royal barge and were ceremonially conveyed back to their original places of worship by Shan State Chief Minister U Sai Htein Soe and officials. A religious ceremony was held at the shrine, where members of the Sangha chanted prayers and attendees offered flowers, water, gold foils and other religious donations.
The festival also featured traditional Intha boat processions, cultural performances and boat races for men, women and students. Local residents and visitors gathered to watch the competitions, and prizes were presented to the winners. Attendees also viewed a historical exhibition about the pagoda and stalls selling traditional Inle textiles.
The annual festival is one of the most important religious and cultural events in the Inle Lake region, bringing together devotees, local communities and visitors to celebrate Buddhist traditions and Intha heritage.
