Swollen by intense rainfall driven by the El Niño climate phenomenon, the Paraná River along with the nearby Iguazú and Uruguay rivers has overflowed its banks, causing severe flooding across northeast Argentina.

Water levels along the Paraná River breached critical evacuation thresholds, inundating riverside communities and stranding residents. By October 23, official updates indicated that the total number of displaced people across northeastern Argentina had expanded to over 2,300 as the rising Paraná and Uruguay rivers continued to pressure coastal defenses.

Civil Defense authorities warned that due to ongoing saturated soil and continued rain feeding into the river basin upstream, fluctuations and high river levels along the Paraná are expected to persist for several more months.
