EU trade ministers met in Dublin on Thursday and Friday during Ireland’s six-month presidency of the bloc to discuss trade relations with China and the United States, and free-trade agreements with Canada and other countries.

Ministers called for a coordinated EU approach to China, faster anti-subsidy and anti-dumping measures, and stronger trade partnerships to diversify markets and reduce economic dependence on major powers. Discussions also covered trade-defence measures and the automotive sector, including plug-in hybrid vehicles.
