Leading Committee for Agriculture and Livestock Based Economic Development and the Establishment of Special Development Zones held its meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

Committee Chairman Union Minister for the President's Office U Tin Aung San attended the meeting and discussed that Nay Pyi Taw and seven relevant districts have to be developed into special development zones based on agriculture and livestock farming, in line with the guidance given by the President.

He highlighted plans to increase agricultural production, expand livestock farming, promote agro-based industries and MSMEs, and improve farmers’ incomes.

Specific priorities include expanding grape production in Yamethin District, developing cotton-based industries in Meiktila District, and promoting duck farming in Taungoo District. He also stressed the need to improve irrigation, conserve water resources, prevent animal diseases, use modern farming methods, and prepare for possible heat and water shortages caused by El Niño.

The meeting also discussed plans to develop Nay Pyi Taw into a Green City, Clean City and Smart City, improve transportation and communication infrastructure, create job opportunities, and strengthen local markets. Officials from Nay Pyi Taw, Bago Region, Mandalay Region and the relevant districts reported on ongoing development activities and future plans.

In conclusion, the committee chairman urged officials to make effective use of local resources, ensure accurate data, prepare for climate-related risks, and work together to achieve the development goals of all seven districts.
