Thoracic Society Conference : MOH UM delivered opening address and formally opened

The opening ceremony of the Myanmar Thoracic Society Conference 2026 was held in the morning on October 10, at the Novotel Hotel in Yangon. Union Minister for Health Dr. Soe Win attended the ceremony and delivered an opening address.

The Union Minister stated that in order to provide effective health services suited to the needs of the public, efforts will continue to strengthen the national health system, promote advanced medical equipment, and enhance the capabilities of medical professionals. He urged the promotion of medical research, academic exchanges among medical professionals, and research activities to address health challenges.

After Professor Dr. Htet Myat, President of the Myanmar Thoracic Society, delivered the welcoming remarks, the Union Minister, the Yangon Region Government Social Affairs Minister, and Professor Dr. Htet Myat formally opened the conference by cutting the ribbon. They then toured the academic poster exhibition and medical booths.

The Myanmar Thoracic Society Conference 2026, held under the motto "Together for Better Lung Health," is taking place on October 10 and 11 at the Novotel Hotel, Yangon. The conference is attended by local pulmonologists, the next generation of medical specialists, and 8 medical experts from Singapore, India, Bangladesh, and Thailand.

Participants will discuss advancements in the field of respiratory medicine, clinical experiences, and capabilities in diagnosis and treatment, alongside the presentation and discussion of research papers. Additionally, a pre-conference workshop was held on October 9 at the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Yangon Specialised Hospital (500-Bedded), with 50 trainees participating in theoretical and practical learning sessions.
