Peacemaking Efforts : NSPNC meets with SNUC in Nay Pyi Taw

The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) held its meeting with the Shanni Nationalities Unity Council/Shanni Nationalities Army (SNUC/SNA) at Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

During the meeting, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae called for regional peace and stability, the prevention of terrorist activities and lawful negotiations to address ethnic political aspirations. He also highlighted infrastructure development in the Shanni (Tai Leng, Tai Lai) area and encouraged the SNUC/SNA to openly discuss their needs as peace partners.

SNUC Chairman Sao Hsay Khun Aung  reaffirmed the council’s commitment to cooperation for national unity, peace and regional development. The meeting discussed regional development, the review of the fourth formal meeting with the NSPNC, a draft peace cooperation pledge, health and education needs, formal trade and socio-economic development through production.

Discussions also covered the political recognition of the SNUC, potential military coordination, historical settlement patterns, ethnic nomenclature and regional recognition, including possible submissions to Hluttaw in accordance with the Constitution. Both sides signed and exchanged the “Pledge to Cooperate for Peace” and formally approved the record of their discussions.

NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing clarified issues concerning health, education, regional development and peace-building cooperation, including participation in ceremonies, workshops and discussions related to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). The two sides later singed the meeting's discussions and approved it.
