The Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development hosted an Anti-Corruption Awareness Seminar, in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), at the ministry on Friday.

Union Minister U Myo Zaw Thein attended the event, together with ACC Chairman U Soe Thein, commission members and officials, members of the Corruption Prevention Unit (CPU) and staff members. In his remarks, the Union Minister said corruption is a major obstacle to comprehensive national development.

He noted that corruption is a moral failing and a crime knowingly committed for personal gain, which can hinder development across sectors, erode public trust in government departments, and damage the administrative, economic and socio-cultural fabric of the State.

He urged civil servants to understand the consequences of corruption, strictly avoid corrupt practices, comply with relevant laws and regulations and help promote anti-corruption awareness within their organizations and communities.

The ACC Chairman highlighted the commission’s preventive measures and stressed that civil service personnel must comply with the Civil Service Law and relevant laws, rules, orders and directives. Officials from the ACC Office later discussed on corruption prevention and the Anti-Corruption Law and answered questions raised by participants.
