Border Areas Development : MOBA Union Minister tours in PutaO

Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Phone Myat visited the Training School for Development of Nationalities Youth from Border Areas in PutaO on September 29, together with Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan and other concerned officials.

After receiving briefings on regional development and school activities, the Union Minister coordinated the needs. They then warmly met with staff, instructors and students and presented cash awards, school uniforms and stationery to students.

On September 30, the Union Minister inspected maintenance works on the completed 65-mile, 4-furlong Magweza-Kawnglanghpu Road. He instructed officials to carry out maintenance and upgrading works to ensure the road’s long-term durability while prioritizing the interests of local ethnic communities.

On October 1, the Union Minister inspected a bypass at Milepost 34/7, constructed after landslides caused by mountain runoff and instructed officials to apply advanced engineering techniques to prevent future landslides and ensure the road’s durability.

He then met with ethnic groups, departmental staff and town elders in Naungmon Township and coordinated the regional development needs while distributing cash prizes. He also inspected the renovated Khakabo wooden school building and ongoing construction of a 600-foot entrance road at Naungmon Basic Education High School.

Teaching materials were then provided to students. He later inspected the Naungmon District Development Supervisory Office and met with the staff. Later in the evening, the Union Minster inspected the ongoing concreting of the 1,920-foot entrance road to Mudon Basic Education Primary School and construction of a repository chamber at MahaMyat Muni Pagoda.

He also met with staff and teachers at the Government Technical Institute (GTI) in PutaO and presented cash awards. On October 2, the Union Minister attended a ceremony at Hkakabo Razi Hall in PutaO to provide basic food supplies to temporarily displaced persons.

In his speech, the Union Minister said assistance has been provided to areas affected by violence and internally displaced persons, subject to the availability of funds in each fiscal year. The Union Minister also urged residents to cooperate in maintaining regional stability and peace to facilitate development.

The Union Minister and Chief Minister then provided basic foodstuff to the displaced persons and gave words of encouragement. They also inspected a proposed construction site for a degree college in PutaO Township and coordinated necessary arrangements.

They inspected classrooms and teaching aids at the Government Technical Institute to explore establishing a joint programme with the degree college. They later visited the PutaO District Development Supervisory Office and met with staff.
