Women Care and Development Centre: MOWA UM inspected the center located in Twante

The Women Care and Development Centre in Twante Township, Yangon Region, was originally established as the Women’s Care Centre on October 5, 2002, through cooperation among the Department of Social Welfare, Department of Health and Prisons Department.

The center was established to provide care and support for women who had been imprisoned and were living with HIV. It initially opened with 25 trainees sent by the Prisons Department, according to the center. The center was renamed the Center for Women Care and Development on May 16, 2020. Subsequently, it was transferred to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs on August 1, 2026, and renamed the Women Care and Development Centre.

On September 29, Union Minister for Women’s Affairs Dr. Thet Thet Zin, accompanied by officials, inspected the center’s library, vocational training activities for trainees and trainee dormitories, and gave necessary instructions. During the visit, the Union minister met with and encouraged the staff and trainees, and provided assistance as well as two days’ food allowances for the trainees and staff, it was reported.
