Efforts for Peace: Meeting between NSPNC and NCA-S EAOs

A meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the Peace Negotiation Team of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement Signatory Ethnic Armed Organizations (NCA-S EAOs) was held on September 29 in Yangon.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), the KNU/KNLA Peace Council, the New Mon State Party (NMSP), the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), the DKBA, and the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP). During the talk, Lt-Gen Ya Pyae, Chairman of the NSPNC, stated that discussions would be held with the EAOs—either as groups or individually—regarding their differing goals and desires concerning the peace process, aiming to return to the original baseline situation.

He emphasized that political parties representing the public would be treated as collaborators rather than mere negotiating partners in the peace process. He also urged all to make concerted efforts to bring non-signatory ethnic armed organizations into the peace process. The attendees then discussed peace process models based on the essence of the NCA, future topics for negotiation, confidence-building measures, establishing basic principles for political dialogues, encouraging broader participation of EAOs in the peace process, ensuring regional stability and development in areas where EAOs are based, organizing public-based dialogues and forums in Regions or States, and future peace initiatives. The second day of the meeting will continue on September 30.
