Conservation of Nature : UM receives Head of Lower Mekong Sub-Region

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Hsan Oo received Mr. Jacob Sebastian Brunner, Head of the Lower Mekong Sub-Region at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), at the Union Minister’s Office reception hall on September 29.

During the meeting, the Union Minister stated that Myanmar became a member state of the IUCN in 2017 and is continuously making efforts to achieve cooperation that yields positive outcomes. He highlighted that the country is currently formulating key national frameworks for environmental conservation and sustainable development, including the National Mangrove Action Plan, the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, and the National Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan. They then discussed enhancing cooperation on biodiversity and sustainable resource conservation activities, protected areas, mangrove conservation efforts, and environmental protection in Myanmar.
