Pope Leo departs for Metz during final day of France visit

After visiting Paris and the sanctuary of Lourdes, the pontiff traveled to the northeastern city of Metz. Located at the crossroads near Germany and Luxembourg, Metz was chosen to host discussions centered on European unity, peace, and interreligious dialogue. It marks the first papal visit to the city since St. John Paul II in 1988.

Pope Leo spoke at an interreligious gathering and delivered an address on the "Roots of Europe for Peace and Unity" at the Robert Schuman Conference Centre. Across his France visit, discussions centered on peace in Europe, the human dignity of migrants, artificial intelligence ethics, and the role of faith in modern public life. Following the events in Metz, Pope Leo XIV departed for Rome to conclude his trip.
