Elon Musk highlights biological enhancement on AI

Elon Musk advocates for biological enhancement—specifically through brain-computer interfaces like Neuralink—to resolve what he sees as a critical "bandwidth bottleneck" between humans and artificial intelligence.

Musk notes that human output through traditional channels such as typing, speaking, or moving, reaches a peak transfer speed of around 100 bits per second. In contrast, AI and computer networks routinely process and transmit data at trillions of bits per second.

Because of this speed gap, interacting with a human from an advanced AI's perspective is drastically slow. Musk argues that even if AI models remain friendly, the slow rate of data exchange will prevent humans from effectively guiding, supervising, or merging with AI systems. Direct neural links or biological enhancements are meant to scale human output speed up toward machine rates, keeping humans tightly aligned with AI evolution.
