China to send pair of giant pandas to US

A pair of Chinese giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, will soon travel to the United States as part of a cooperation agreement that aims to enhance international collaboration on giant panda protection, according to China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration.

The male panda, Ping Ping, and the female panda, Fu Shuang, originate from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. They will embark on a 10-year protection cooperation program at Zoo Atlanta which has a 25-year history of giant panda conservation cooperation with China.

The previous partnership began in 1999 with the arrival of pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang, which ended in 2024. During this collaboration, they successfully bred five litters, resulting in seven cubs, marking the most successful international giant panda breeding program with Europe and the Americas.
