A total of 250 additional CCTV cameras will be installed at Shwedagon Pagoda, bringing the number of cameras to 650 to strengthen security and maintain discipline.

Yangon Region Minister for Information, Relief and Religious Affairs U Nay Lin Tun outlined the plan in response to a question from U San Kyaw of Hlaing Constituency 2, on the second day of the third regular session of the Third Yangon Region Hluttaw on 14 August.

The minister said about 2,800 private vehicles and taxis enter the pagoda on weekdays, rising to around 7,300 on weekends and 8,000 on festival days. Currently, 10 parking areas can accommodate 523 vehicles on a rotating basis. Officials are also considering expanding parking facilities to reduce traffic congestion and make it easier for visitors to pay homage.
