






The 18th meeting of the Legal Translation Commission, its Working Committee, and associated Working Groups took place at the Ministry of Legal Affairs on August 13th.Â
Union Minister for Legal Affairs, Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo, in her capacity as Commission Chairperson attended the meeting, and discussed that the commission has to translate 137 laws from colonial era and among them 81 laws are needed to translate.
59 laws are originally promulgated in English into the Myanmar language and remaining 4 laws are currently in the process of translation. During her tenure as the commission chairperson, the Union Attorney said 33 laws were translated into Myanmar version and approved, and 8 Law Translation Books were published which included from book No. (9) to (16). 5 more laws discussed and approved at the previous 17th meeting will soon be published as Book No. (17).
The meeting will be held for two days and discussion will be made on the approval for the translation of four Acts: The Public Servants Inquiries Act, The Usurious Loans Act, The Myanmar Carriage of Goods by Sea Act and The Evidence Act.
The Legal Translation Commission was established under the Legal Translation Commission Law which was enacted on April 9th 2015. Recently, under the Order No.52/2026 issued by the President’s Office on May 4th 2026, the commission was reformed with 13 commission members including the chairperson.
