Weather Report: Flood warning issued for several river areas

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has warned that water levels in several major rivers have risen above danger levels, with some expected to remain high over the next 24 hours.

As of 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, water levels were above danger levels by 35 cm at Myinmu, 56 cm at Pakokku, 82 cm at Nyaung Oo, 88 cm at Hpa-an, 18 cm at Madauk, and 108 cm at Myitnge. Levels at Pakokku, Nyaung Oo and Hpa-an are expected to rise further, while levels at Myinmu, Madauk and Myitnge are forecast to fall slightly.

However, all are expected to remain above danger levels. People living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas are advised to take precautions. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a depression within the next 36 hours and move toward West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh.
