Commemorative Event : International Youth Day celebrated in Nay Pyi Taw

The 2026 International Youth Day ceremony took place at Myanmar International Convention Center-1 (MICC-1) in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

President U Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony and gave a speech, highlighting the importance of nurturing young people with comprehensive physical, intellectual, moral, social and other capabilities, as well as with a sense of responsibility, good values, positive thinking and a desire to contribute to society.

He also stressed the role of youth for national development, and added that the government's efforts to expand opportunities for the comprehensive development of young people, improve their skills and potential, and provide them with meaningful opportunities to participate in their communities and contribute to nation-building.

He also urged young people who are proficient in modern technology and the digital world to contribute to positive change and compete with the global community, while having awareness on the challenges of the digital world, paying attention to AI ethics and cybersecurity, avoid actions that could harm the development and reputation of the country and its people, and become responsible digital citizens.

He also encouraged all young people to develop strong knowledge and skills, become proficient in modern technologies, actively participate in nation-building with responsibility and accountability, and prepare themselves to take on future responsibilities and become capable and dependable citizens who can contribute to the country’s future development.

This was followed by presenting awards to Myanmar youths who won prizes and medals in international academic, cultural and sports competitions. The ceremony also included a message from the UN Secretary-General, youth performances, a video presentation and an exhibition featuring youth-led businesses and development activities from across Myanmar.

According to the decision of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, first held in Portugal in 1998, August 12 has been designated as International Youth Day every year, and this year marks the 27th anniversary of its observance in countries around the world. This year's event was held under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
