Inspection of Flood-hit Areas: MDY Region CM inspected flood-hit areas

In some regions of Myanmar, seasonal natural disasters such as floods and inundations have been occurring during the rainy season, and several areas within Mandalay Region have also been affected.

On August 5, 2026, heavy rainfall occurred in Mogok Township, leading to substantial inflows into the Setawgyi Reservoir. To ensure the safety of the dam, excess water had to be regulated and released. As a result, water overtopped the road along the Mandalay-Mogok route in Kyauk Sarit Kone (South) village tract, Madaya Township, and floodwaters entered villages in Kyauk Sarit Kone (South).

Due to the flooding, an emergency relief camp was set up in Zee Phyu Pin Kone Village, Kyauk Sarit Kone (South) village tract. Local military personnel, Myanmar Police Force members, fire brigade personnel, social rescue organizations, charitable groups, and local residents jointly made concerted efforts to search for, assist, and evacuate flood-affected residents. Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, U Myo Aung, accompanied by relevant officials, visited the flood relief camp in Zee Phyu Pin Kone Village, Kyauk Sarit Kone (South) village tract, Madaya Township, Monday afternoon.

He met with flood-affected residents, delivered words of encouragement, and provided rice, cooking oil, drinking water, food supplies, and medicines to 85 households comprising 285 individuals from the affected homes. Following this, the Director from the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management explained the ongoing efforts to restore the Setawgyi Reservoir to normal conditions.

Afterwards, one of the flood-affected residents shared their experiences and expressed words of gratitude. Subsequently, the Chief Minister and his delegation cordially greeted and encouraged the flood-affected residents. They then inspected the receding floodwaters in the affected villages and the measures being taken to return the areas to normalcy. The Chief Minister provided necessary coordination and guidance to relevant officials to address outstanding needs, according to reports.
