Economic Cooperation: President attends the Thai-Myanmar Business Forum

President U Min Aung Hlaing attended the Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum 2026 in Bangkok on Thursday, where government officials, business leaders and investors from both countries gathered to strengthen trade and investment cooperation and explore new opportunities for long-term economic growth.

Held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, the forum commenced with the remarks from the Chairpersons of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Association and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI). Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said said Thailand and Myanmar are ready to build a new chapter of economic cooperation based on trust, mutual respect, and the interests of both peoples.

He highlighted that Myanmar is an important economic partner of Thailand, with strong potential to increase bilateral trade, stressing that Thailand aims to increase bilateral trade between the two countries to 12 billion US dollars through the Joint Trade Committee. He also emphasized the importance of closer cooperation between governments, businesses, and trade organizations to create practical economic opportunities.

In his speech, President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed confidence that stronger economic cooperation between the two countries will open a new chapter of partnership and help address global economic challenges. The President expressed hope that his visit will further strengthen friendship between the peoples of Myanmar and Thailand, expand economic cooperation, and contribute to regional economic development.

He expressed appreciation to Thailand for its continued support during times of challenges, saying that Thailand has stood by Myanmar as a true friend through mutual understanding, trust, and respect. The President emphasized that Myanmar is working to promote the development of MSMEs through improved procedures and greater cooperation with regional business partners.

He also highlighted the ongoing digital transformation efforts under the Myanmar Digital Roadmap 2030. The President invited Thai investors to explore opportunities in the Yadanapon Cyber City Project, which is being developed on about 10,000 acres in a highland area of central Myanmar.

He said combining Myanmar’s natural resources with Thailand’s technology, capital, and management expertise could create a mutually beneficial “win-win” economic partnership. Following the forum, President U Min Aung Hlaing, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and participants toured exhibition booths displayed at the forum. Later in the evening, President U Min Aung Hlaing separately met with Thai business leaders and discussed ways to further promote investment and trade cooperation between the two countries.
