Chile president announces reforms targeting organized crime

Chilean President José Antonio Kast on Wednesday announced a major security agenda and constitutional reforms to crack down on organized crime.

The reforms proposed to make public safety an explicit state duty, criminalized membership in unlawful syndicates with heavier penalties, and reinforced border controls. Kast pledged to implement a major crackdown on crime and immigration when he took office in March.
