A 25-year-old Polish man opened fire from a car in Krakow's Main Market Square on Saturday, killing six people and injuring at least 15 others before being shot and arrested by police.

Authorities reported the suspect acted alone and was "fascinated by far-right" and ultranationalist ideologies. Police shot him during an exchange of fire, and he was hospitalized in police custody.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the bodies of three family members were found inside the suspect's home. The city declared an official period of mourning running through November 11, and police recovered additional weapons and ammunition from the shooter's vehicle.
