Ancient Buddhist site Sarnath inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List

The ancient Buddhist site of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh, India, was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on Sunday. Listed during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, the site marks India's 45th property to join the global list.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that this recognition celebrates India’s profound civilizational and spiritual heritage. It will also inspire more people across the world to come to Sarnath and connect with the ideals of Lord Buddha.
