UN chief calls for respect for Syria's sovereignty, international support

UN Secretary-General António Guterres visited Damascus on Saturday, calling for an end to Israeli military violations and urged global aid for Syria's post-war recovery.

During his meeting with Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Guterres stated that Israeli incursions and actions around the Golan Heights violate international rules and must stop immediately. He also stressed that 90% of the population lives in poverty and asked the world to help fund Syria's $216 billion estimated reconstruction need.
