Spain declared a national emergency in the Madrid region and neighboring Ávila province on Friday, due to severe out-of-control wildfires.

The crisis has forced more than 10,000 evacuations and placed operational command under the military. Over 125,000 hectares have burned across Spain in 2026 amid extreme summer heatwaves and dried vegetation.
