Canada PM to consider response options if new US tariffs take effect

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday announced that his country will consider all response options if new US 50% tariffs take effect on August 19. Carney also stated that Ottawa will match or retaliate against measures he views as violations of Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.

The White House announced on Monday that US will impose an additional 50 percent ad valorem tariff on certain Canadian products. The move is intended to counter "discriminatory measures" taken by Canada in the trade of automobiles and auto parts.
