Water Supply for Monsoon Paddy: MOALI DM inspected water supply for paddy and crops

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw inspected water supply conditions for monsoon paddy and other crops through the Sinthay Diversion Weir in Tatkone Township, Nay Pyi Taw, on July 20.

During the inspections near Htan Taw Gyi and Kan Hla villages, the Deputy Minister instructed officials and farmers to prepare for possible water shortages caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon. He urged farmers to conserve discharged irrigation water using retention structures or temporary earthen dams, avoid wasting water and cooperate with relevant departments to ensure fair water distribution across all agricultural areas.

During the monsoon season, water inflow from Sinthay Dam is regulated while runoff from streams between the dam and diversion weir is directly supplied to irrigation areas through canals. The dam's storage capacity is also being increased in preparation for potential water shortages during the 2026–2027 summer cultivation season. For the 2026–2027 season, Sinthay Dam is expected to irrigate 10,963 acres of monsoon paddy. So far, 1,200 acres have been planted while water has been supplied to 4,815 acres.

The Deputy Minister also inspected water supply to Sinthay Right Main canal through six 10-inch and three 8-inch tube wells near Uyin Village in Pobbathiri Township, as well as kitchen crop cultivation supported by four solar-powered wells near YwaySu Village in Tatkone Township. He coordinated the needs on continued water management and irrigation operations.
