






The Central Committee for Prevention of Hazards from Chemicals and Related Substances held its meeting at the Ministry of Industry and MSME Development on Friday.
During the meeting, Chairman of the Central Committee, Union Minister Dr. Charlie Than said that several directives and guidelines related to chemical management, transportation, safety standards, and supervision had been issued in accordance with previous decisions of the committee.
He highlighted that the main objectives of the Chemical and Related Substances Hazard Prevention Law are to protect people and the environment from chemical-related risks, ensure safe management and use of chemicals, promote public awareness and research, and improve workplace safety, health, and environmental protection.
He called for cooperation of all involved personnel for effective implementation of the tasks. The meeting discussed the establishment of the Central Chemical Management Centre, laboratory testing services for chemicals, training programs on chemical and waste management, and inspections of industrial facilities to ensure proper waste disposal and environmental protection.
Deputy Chairman of the committee and Union Minister for Health Prof. Dr. Thet Khaing Win emphasized the importance of systematic monitoring of chemical use to prevent health risks and environmental damage. He also noted the need for cooperation among relevant sectors to ensure safe chemical management.
Attendees also discussed measures including public awareness programs, safety warning signs, emergency response plans, drills, and prevention of hazards caused by chemical waste from mining and industrial activities.
