










A ceremony to open the Institutes of Nursing in Nay Pyi Taw and 14 regions and states was held at the venue in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday, with the attendance of President U Min Aung Hlaing.
In his speech, the President the government will continue strengthening the healthcare sector by expanding nursing education and improving access to healthcare across the country. He added that the upgrading of the nursing institutes aims to train more qualified nurses and midwives to meet growing healthcare needs.
He reiterated that student intake will increase in the 2027 academic year, while nursing education will be upgraded to meet international standards. The President also called on nursing students to improve their professional skills, digital literacy, English proficiency, and commitment to compassionate patient care.
He reaffirmed the government's support for better salaries, recognition, and career development for nurses and midwives. >>> The upgrade of 15 nursing and midwifery training schools into Institutes of Nursing aims to produce more qualified nurses and midwives.
Since 1962, Myanmar has trained more than 45,000 nurses and 42,000 midwives. For the 2027 academic year, the government will increase enrollment to 2,900 students for the three-year nursing diploma program and 1,400 students for the two-year midwifery diploma program.
