Amyotha Hluttaw Session: 17th day of 2nd regular session held

The 17th day of the Second Regular Session of the Third Amyotha Hluttaw was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Amyotha Hluttaw Meeting Hall of the Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw. Of the 209 Hluttaw representatives entitled to attend, 191 were present.

During the question-and-answer session, questions submitted by U Kyaw Zin Tun, Amyotha Hluttaw representative No. (8), for Sagaing Region; U Thein Hlaing, representative No. (7), for Sagaing Region; U Aye Paing, representative No. (6), for Yangon Region; and Daw Mi Mi Kyaw Tun, representative No. (4), for Kachin State, were answered by Deputy Minister for Transport U Tun Lu, Deputy Minister for Electric Power and Energy U Aye Kyaw, and Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Daw Than Than Lin.

The Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw then sought the approval of the Hluttaw to establish Myanmar–China Parliamentary Friendship Association and Myanmar–India Parliamentary Friendship Association. He submitted the proposed lists of the chairpersons, secretaries, and members of the associations to the Hluttaw. As the Hluttaw approved the proposal, the Speaker announced the official establishment of the friendship associations and confirmed the appointments of their respective chairpersons, secretaries, and members.

The Hluttaw then considered a motion submitted by U Myo Thant, Amyotha Hluttaw representative No. (6) for Ayeyawady Region, urging the Union Government to amend Rules 103, 104, 106(a), (b), and (c), and Rule 112(a) of Chapter XII of the Farmland Rules, 2012 (Notification No. 2/2012). The motion was seconded by Daw Khin Than Oo, Amyotha Hluttaw representative No. (12) for Ayeyawady Region.

The Speaker subsequently sought the decision of the Hluttaw on whether the motion should be debated. As the Hluttaw agreed, he announced that the motion would be taken up for discussion and that representatives wishing to participate in the debate could submit their names to the Director General of the Amyotha Hluttaw Office.

The 17th day of the Second Regular Session of the Third Amyotha Hluttaw was then adjourned. The 18th day of the session is scheduled to continue on July 17, it’s reported.
