The United Nations said on Tuesday that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz must remain free, opposing any attempt by any party to restrict navigation or impose transit tolls. This UN stance was strongly reaffirmed after US President Donald Trump proposed a 20% toll on all cargo shipped through the strait while announcing a reinstated naval blockade on Iran.

Both the UN and regional nations like Oman have rejected these charges, emphasizing that all transit through such straits must remain open and free.
