Firefighters gain upper hand on deadly Spain wildfire

Spanish firefighters gained the upper hand on a devastating wildfire in the southeastern province of Almería on Saturday, aided by calmer winds and higher humidity. Around 500 firefighters and over 20 water-dropping aircraft, along with military personnel, have managed to halt the blaze from crossing the highway toward coastal towns.

Authorities suspect a snapped power line ignited the blaze amid an extreme, weeks-long heatwave with temperatures exceeding 40°C.
