Germany to buy US Tomahawk missiles

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced that his country has agreed to buy US-made Tomahawk cruise missiles. The fate of the agreement had been unclear because US President Donald Trump had previously said he would reduce his country's military presence in Germany.

The two countries agreed in 2024 that the US would equip its forces in Germany with long-range weapons starting this year. Tomahawk missiles were part of the agreement. The Tomahawk agreement appears to fit in with Trump's push for European allies to pay for their own security.
