Khamenei's glass-encased casket, draped in the Iranian flag and topped with his turban, arrived at Najaf International Airport, where it was met by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
The body was processed to the revered Imam Ali Shrine, drawing an estimated three million mourners. The procession moved from Sayyid Jawda Square down Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis Street, culminating at the twin holy shrines of Imam Hussein and Hazrat Abbas.
Along with Khamenei's coffin, the remains of several family members killed alongside him (including his granddaughter) were also paraded through the shrines. The Iraqi government declared a nationwide public holiday to accommodate the massive scale of the ceremonies. Volunteers lined the streets erecting tents to offer food, water, and tea to the massive influx of mourners.
