The United States on Wednesday declined to renew the USMCA for an automatic 16-year extension. Instead, the Trump administration opted to let the current trilateral pact transition to an annual review process, remaining in effect for the next decade while US pushes to renegotiate terms bilaterally with Mexico and Canada.

Trilateral renewal is on hold, but the USMCA legally remains in force pending further negotiations or its eventual expiration in 2036.
