Macron welcomes the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik, at the Élysée

On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron formally received His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman at the Élysée Palace in Paris.  The high-profile meeting marks a historic diplomatic milestone: it is Sultan Haitham’s very first official visit to France since ascending to the Omani throne in 2020, and the first time a ruling Sultan of Oman has made a state visit to Paris in nearly forty years.

While bilateral trade was a core focus, the strategic headline of the meeting centered around regional maritime security, particularly navigating the aftermath of recent geopolitical friction.
