US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been touring the Middle East to shore up support from Gulf allies. He said on Thursday that they are all opposed to Iran's plan to charge tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, and he warned that the US will not "tolerate it."

Rubio made the remarks after meeting with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Bahrain. The US and six Gulf countries issued a joint statement rejecting all payments for using the strait and claiming control of the waterway. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on social media on Thursday that he spoke with Albusaidi. He said the two sides will continue dialogue to define management and service for the strait.
