With the aims of preserving the natural environment, supporting favorable climate conditions, providing shade and greenery, and contributing to the national economy in various ways, tree-planting events have been held annually during the monsoon season since 2011 by families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, Air) and respective Regional Military Commands.
On June 22nd, the first monsoon season tree-planting ceremony for 2026 by families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, Air) was held near the Yezin Dam in Zayathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw. The ceremony was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, General Ye Win Oo, who led the planting of a treasure-grade Teakwood tree.
First, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, delivered an address. He stated that in line with the saying "The seasons depend on the forest," tree planting helps regulate the climate and significantly impacts environmental conservation. He emphasized that the Tatmadaw is prioritizing the forestry sector as a national duty.
He noted that according to meteorological records, Myanmar experienced record-high temperatures in the early 2000s in Sagaing and Monywa, and in 2024, areas such as Chauk, Mandalay, and Nyaung U also experienced extreme heat. Such record-breaking temperatures would not only affect human health and longevity but also lead to secondary adverse effects on agricultural water, drinking water, and other sectors.
He further stated that in accordance with the state policy of "Let's preserve the environment for a prosperous nation," the Tatmadaw must work toward the goal of ensuring a rich and abundant forestry sector, from which socio-economic development and disaster prevention would follow.
After the speech, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo and his wife led the planting of a treasure-grade Teakwood tree. Following that, attendees planted trees in their designated areas. Subsequently, General Ye Win Oo, together with his wife and officials, toured and offered encouragement to officers, ranks and their families as they participated in the collective tree-planting activities.
Similarly, monsoon season tree-planting ceremonies were also held in respective Regional Military Command areas, where treasure-grade trees, industrial raw material crops, perennial food crops, and shade-providing windbreak trees were collectively planted. Regional commanders, responsible officials, officers, ranks and their families participated in the activities. Across the entire Tatmadaw, a total of 235,674 trees were planted this day, it’s reported.
