







A tax awareness discussion aimed at improving tax knowledge and enhancing compliance with tax obligations was held Monday morning at the meeting hall of the General Administration Department in Pyinmana Township. The event was attended by Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Kan Myint Than, who delivered the opening speech.
First, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, explained the objectives of holding the discussion session. He then elaborated that under the 2008 Constitution, Myanmar's tax system is implemented at three levels: taxes collected by the Union Government, taxes collected by Region or State Governments, and taxes collected by Development Committees.
He further stated that according to Section 389 of the Constitution, "Every citizen shall have the duty to pay taxes to be levied in accordance with the law." Therefore, business owners are required to pay their due taxes arising from residing in the country, operating business activities, and earning income and acquiring assets. He also discussed other necessary matters.
Subsequently, the attendees engaged in clarifications and discussions regarding tax provisions, as well as general discussions on related topics. The Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council provided necessary directives and concluded the event by warmly meeting and greeting the taxpayers in attendance, it’s reported.
