Field Demonstration Event: Monsoon paddy cultivation using a paddy transplanter

A field demonstration event for monsoon paddy cultivation using a paddy transplanter was held on Saturday at Bonmaw Agricultural Field in Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region.

Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo attended the event, and inspected seed protection materials, paddy varieties, and manual seed-sowing tools displayed at the site.

The Chief Minister emphasized efforts to increase paddy yield per acre and to achieve food self-sufficiency, especially in Dawei District, where self-sufficiency is currently about 90.29%. He highlighted the importance of using improved seeds, modern farming tools, and agricultural technology. He also noted that using paddy transplanters and seed-sowing machines can save time, reduce costs, and help address labor shortages.

The event included demonstrations of paddy transplanter use, and improved seeds and farming tools were distributed to selected farmers and township representatives.

In the 2025–2026 fiscal year, Tanintharyi Region cultivated over 222,000 acres of monsoon paddy and over 8,000 acres of summer paddy, producing about 16.99 million baskets of paddy, with local food self-sufficiency reaching 79.53%. For the 2026–2027 year, the region plans to cultivate about 222,476 acres of monsoon paddy and 8,160 acres of summer paddy. So far, 1,659 acres of monsoon paddy have already been planted.
