The record-breaking summer heatwave is sweeping across Germany and broader Central Europe.

In Berlin, the German Weather Service has issued severe heat warnings, with daytime highs in the capital spiking to a blistering 38°C to 39°C. The heat is not isolated to Berlin.

The southwest and southern regions of Germany are seeing similar conditions, marking what meteorologists call the first official "desert days" of the year where temperatures consistently breach the 35°C threshold. The German Weather Service has issued a Level 1 heatwave warning, expecting temperatures to approach 40 degrees over the next few days.
